Day05 Tuesday 28 September 2010
Ikornshaw - Gargrave
First time dropped behind schedule finishing 6 miles short of planned destination. Decided at 4:30 it was more important to find somewhere to stay than to stick to plan and arrive in dark. First real treat a warm bed, hot shower and proper food.
Gargrave - Malham
Day06 Photographs
Day06 Summary, Map, Route and Description
Only going to walk 6 miles today which will put me exactly one day behind planned schedule. Decided to count this as a rest day as cannot imagine sitting around in one place after walking everyday for nearly a week, so will make up time tomorrow (day 7) which was a scheduled rest day.
Day07 Thursday 30 September 2010
Malham - Horton-in-Ribblesdale
Day07 Summary, Map, Route (Description to follow)
Tough day expected today with initial climb over fountains fell then really tough climb at end over Pen-y-Ghent the highest point so far.
Day08 Friday 01 October 2010
Horton-in-Ribblesdale - Hawes
Day08 Summary, Map, Route (Description to follow)
Wettest, windiest, wildest, bestest day of walk so far. Really appreciated availability at Hawes Youth Hostel as was soaked to skin walking over Cam Fell. At least the wind was behind me.
Day09 Saturday 02 October 2010
Hawes - Keld
Day09 Summary, Map, Route (Description to follow)
The first day I actually began to think I would complete the walk. Until I slipped and went face first up to my elbws in to a bog. To make matters worse I had miscalculated distance on route card and found I had 6 miles to get to Tan Hill instead of 2 so struggled to reach Keld by 6pm. What began and became a high point of the walk deteriorated into a low which became a slog for the last 2 miles.
